The debut season was amid the late spring of 1986, it was intended to open with a show by The Grateful Dead, who needed to drop because of Jerry Garcia's unconsciousness. They initially performed at Shoreline Amphitheater on October 2, 1987 and played a sum of 39 shows. Shows from October 3, 1987 were recorded and later discharged as a live collection, titled View from the Vault, Volume Three.
